Activities Youth Development League (YDL):
For the younger ones these are dependant on the number of coaches and athletes but normally include sprinting and endurance, then depending on the weather, hurdling, jumping and throwing. There are also specific groups for the stronger and more experienced sprint, throws and endurance athletes.
The YDL is split into two leagues namely Upper and Lower.
Upper league is for U17 and U20 athletes where Menai compete as part of a composite team for North Wales. It is made up of Menai, Colwyn Bay, Deeside, Wrexham and Maldwyn. Selection for this is mainly off the Power of 10 and performances at Championships. A link will be sent out to purchase a NW vest if selected.
Lower League is for U13 and U15 and we compete as Menai Track and Field. Athletes are again selected on performances although there are more opportunities to compete in other events and non-scoring events too.
There are also Junior Events hosted by Welsh Athletics for local North Wales Clubs and is intended as an introduction to competition and includes U11, U13 and U15. The focus is on giving all athletes a chance to experience competition.
We would encourage all our members to look at the fixture list and to make themselves available to represent our club in these competitions.
Communication surrounding the fine details of the events will be posted on Spond from the YDL Team Managers.
