On a cold wet, muddy Saturday, 12 of Menai’s Endurance athletes made the journey across the Mersey to Sefton Park, Liverpool to compete in the prestigious British Athletics Cross Challenge.
In the U17M category of 112 runners from across the UK, Cedol Dafydd (AW) finished in 55th place. Ex Menai Junior Endurance runner Tomos Land (now with C/Bay) finished in 88th place in the same race.
In a highly competitive race and with only 43 seconds between them, the U15Boys Race boasted 5 of Menai’s Endurance athletes. Mike Spill(Steve Livett) 12th, Eden Potter 26th(SL), Osian Perrin 30th(AW),Cai La Trobe Roberts 43rd (SL)and Dan Stones 52nd. (SL)
U15G
In what was always going to be a quick race, Menai had 2 runners in this category. Welsh Schools Champion Samia Jones (Steve Livett)-(first year U15G) ran passionately and crossed in a superb 9th position. Ffion Madi Rees jones(SL), after running hard in the first half of the race, finish in 63rd position in a field of 129 runners.
U13B
Math Thomas(SL) ran strongly and with purpose from the start and finished in 12th position in a race with 125 runners.
U11 Junior Endurance athlete Ari Wyn Hughes did himself proud crossing the line in less than 9 minutes to gain 87th position in a field of 128 runners in the U11Boys runout.
Having started with Academy Eryri and progressing to Menai’s Junior Endurance Group, the U11 Girls event saw Beca Haf Bown run in only her fourth ever Club representative race and first race out of North Wales, finishing in 5th position in a field of 122 runners.
Ex Menai and Ynys Mon runner Cari Hughes (Andy Walling) had an exceptional race in the U20W, finishing in 3rd place and claiming her place to represent GB in the European Cross Country Championships. An inspiration to all young athletes at Menai and beyond – something to aspire to. Llongyfarchiadau Mawr i ti Cari from all at Menai.
