Well, it was the first of the Big Cross Country Races yesterday – The UK Athletics Cardiff Cross Challenge.
The Cardiff Cross is a selection race for lots of different events, so all the races were stacked with the best athletes from all four corners of the UK.
Menai Track and Field only had 3 runners participating, but they did us proud.
Miguel Jenkins set off with a fantastic pace in his 3,200 metres race. Miguel finished 7th overall and was 2nd Welshman to a sprint finish across the line alongside another athlete. Both athletes have been given the same time. So I blame the Coach for not making him work harder !
A big well done to Beca Haf Bown, going out hard , running the Under 17’s & Under 20’s race to a distance of 4,450 metres. Beca finished 18th overall, first Under 17 form Wales. This should gain her selection for her country in the Under 20’s International at Milton Keynes. Not bad for 14 years old.
Then it was the Under 20’s race for Dion Griffith. A great gutsy performance in a field that was full of the best runners in the UK. Dion finished in a fantastic 36th position to make him the 6th Welshman to cross the line in his 6,400 metre race.
Well done, you all did the club proud
