Club Update

Club Update

We hope you are all keeping well, fit and active during these challenging times.

As a committee, we just want to reassure you that our club’s committee and coaches are working hard to plan a safe way back to training and competition for all our athletes.  At present, we are liaising with Bangor University (operators of our track) and utilising guidance from Welsh Athletics to devise a way of operating which will be as safe as possible for our athletes and coaches, and essentially all of our wider families and communities.

At present, we are limited with regards to current governmental guidelines which include social distancing and also the number of different households who can meet together.  With the situation changing on a frequent basis we will be endeavouring to progress when the situation is safe to do. The health and safety of our athletes is our main priority and as such we will have to consider some of the following; operational risk assessments, the health of vulnerable/high risk athletes and coaches, group sizes and track availability.

Given the large number of variables which are affecting coached group activity at the track, we are unable at this stage to name a date for when we expect training could resume, however we anticipate some announcements in the coming week.  It is anticipated that in the early days, group sizes will have to be significantly reduced and we will be implementing a phased return with u15’s u17’s u20’s and Senior athletes being welcomed back initially followed by u11’s and u13’s at a later date. We are also looking at separate sessions for different groups on our designated training evenings, for example – 6pm – 7:30pm & 7:30pm – 9pm and further details will be confirmed in the coming week on this. Please rest assured that our long-term aim is to have a club where everyone can return to training however in order to protect health and wellbeing, an open access club will just not be possible at present hence the phased return.

Finally, each year we ask that our athletes are up to date with club membership ensuring affiliation to Welsh Athletics.  Affiliation with Welsh Athletics means that all athletes are covered by insurance during training and competition.  When club membership is paid the membership secretary will affiliate each athlete individually with Welsh Athletics.  It must also be noted that when we return to training & competitions, club membership will be an absolute essential requirement so please don’t miss out on training and competition opportunities. Club membership expires each year on March 31st.

As a club, we have never had a situation like this before and it is a learning curve for us all.  Please bear with us while we try and roll out any training and please do not hesitate to contact us via the club email if you have any further enquiries; info@menaitrackandfield.co.uk

We would like to thank you all for your patience and understanding and look forward to welcoming you all back to the track when it is safe to do so.

Kind Regards
