LLongyfrchiadau Enfawr… Massive Congratulations to both Menai U13 Girls & U15 Girls Road Race Relay Teams, travelling to Pembrey Country Park, Llanelli and bringing home to North West Wales a total of Seven Welsh Athletics Gold Team Medals.
Menai’s endurance athletes again enjoyed a rewarding trip to the Welsh Athletics Road Relay Championships at Pembrey Park near Llanelli on Saturday.
The racing kicked off with the U13G team of Cadi Glyn Edwards, Seren Griffiths, Madeleine Sinfield and Beca Haf Bown. After a solid first leg by Cadi Glyn (6’54”) who put the team in 7th place, Seren (6’43”-10th fastest leg overall) took over and moved them up to 2nd. With just over a quarter of a mile to go of leg 3 Madeleine (6’33”-7th fastest leg) made the move to take the lead. Beca (6’29”-4th fastest leg) then set off with a Carmarthen athlete in hot pursuit but Beca maintained the lead and despite three of our girls being new to the U13 age group they took the team win.
The next race saw Menai field two U15G teams, Abbi Parkinson, Georgia Parkinson, Samia Jones and Non Elen Redvers Jones, Caitlin Forrest, Boe Celyn Jones, as well as an U17M team of Aled Jones, Cameron Lawrence, Cai Llwyd Jones. Abbi (12’04”-6th fastest leg) put the U15G ‘A’ team into 1st after leg while Non (12’57”) was in 6th and Aled (10’59”) in 7th despite a fall out on the course. Leg two saw the U15G ‘A’ drop to 4th despite a solid leg by Georgia (12’56”), while Caitlin (13’57”) was in 7th and Cameron (11’17”) 10th. Samia (10’54”)set off on the final leg for the U15G ‘A’ team and through running the fastest U15G leg of the day, picked her way through the field to take the club’s second team win of the day. Boe (12’28”-10th fastest leg) brought the ‘B’ girls home in 6th while Cai (10’59”)brought the boys home in 9th.
